Storyline: Coffee industry in China's Yunnan brews up success [Voice_over] Southwest China's Yunnan Province is continuing the development of its coffee industry with a focus on domestic coffee varieties and technology, which has led to an increase in production and exports. In the past, most of the coffee plants grown in Yunnan were imported, but in recent years, agricultural researchers have selected and bred five new coffee bean varieties with independent intellectual property rights. Processing those beans has become highly mechanized with coffee companies in the region utilizing the things like X-ray machines which can select ripe coffee beans at a speed of 12,000 beans per second. [Sound_bite] Yang Zhu, Coffee company manager: "This is the first X-ray device in China for coffee bean screening. We developed it together with a leading optical enterprise in China. We also developed nitrogen cooling fresh-locking packaging to preserve the freshness of coffee beans. It solves the problem of how to keep our premium coffee beans fresh." [Voice_over] The manager of the company says the methods they employ for improving freshness add value to the beans, which made more than 36 million U.S. dollars in sales last year. We've been maintaining good growth every year."
