A pet dog stranded on a cliff in Wales was rescued by a lifeboat crew.

The hapless spaniel, named Ember, became stuck on the rockface after chasing her ball toy in Moelfre on April 16 afternoon.

Concerned onlookers said they heard barking but could not see where the dog was prompting them to alert the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

Footage shows two rescuers wearing yellow drysuits and lifejackets swimming through the sea to reach Ember.

They climbed onto the ledge, calmed the distressed pooch, and secured her with a leash.

The crew then carefully lowered the dog, swam back to their boat, and returned her safely to her owner on shore.

Ember reportedly did not sustain any serious injuries during the ordeal.

Moelfre RNLI Coxswain Vince Jones said they could hear Ember barking as they entered the water.

He said: 'The ledge was inaccessible from the cliff top. We urge people never to attempt a rescue themselves. Instead, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. We also recommend keeping pets on a lead near cliffs or piers.'
