This was the terrifying moment a powerful storm slammed into homes in Thailand.

Footage shows heavy rain and strong gusts battering the Mae Rim district of Chiang Mai on Friday, April 18, as worried residents gathered to watch the freak weather unfold.

In Don Kaew, a massive roadside tree was uprooted and collapsed onto a restaurant, injuring two people. The incident also damaged 11 cars and three motorcycles.

The injured individuals were safely transported to Nakornping Hospital for treatment.

Severe summer storms have been causing property damage and power outages across northern Thailand in recent weeks.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are nearing their annual monsoon rainy season, which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rainstorms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
