Diner caught on camera planting hair in food to scam free meal from restaurant
On April 15 in Tianjin, a man dined at a barbecue restaurant with his family, including his wife, children, and elderly relatives. As the meal was coming to an end, he suddenly scratched his head and deliberately placed a strand of hair into a dish.
He then called over a server, claiming he had found hair in the food and demanded the meal be free of charge. The restaurant offered to replace the dish, but the man refused and insisted on a full refund, accusing the establishment of hygiene issues.
Surveillance footage later revealed that the man had repeatedly scratched his head during the meal and intentionally placed hair into the food. The footage clearly showed that his actions were deliberate and amounted to malicious fraud.
Facing his unreasonable demand, the restaurant refused to waive the bill and chose to contact the police. Upon realizing this, the man quickly left the restaurant with his family without paying.
According to the restaurant, the same man had used similar tactics to extort compensation from multiple restaurants before and was a repeat offender.
Police have since launched a full investigation and are actively pursuing the man involved.
