This is the shocking moment a chicken that was released for good luck at a blessing ceremony attacked a baby.

The birds were part of ritual offerings for Tiga Bulan, a Balinese tradition held when a youngster turns three months old.

Footage shows a relative holding two roosters - one for each kid held by their parents - before the animals were made to touch their tiny feet.

When the fowls were launched into the air, one of them flew away, but the other landed right on a boy's face.

The father was startled as the chicken placed its talons on his son while flapping its wings on April 11.

Neighbour Dessy Ira said: 'In Hindu traditions in Bali, if the child reaches three months old, a ceremony will be held.

'This is a symbol of the first time the child touches the ground, ending with the throwing of a chicken.'

The bird was immediately driven away, and the kid was unhurt.

Tiga Bulan is held when a baby turns three months old based on the Balinese Pawukon calendar. Its purpose is to cleanse and protect the baby spiritually.
