Sandstorm engulfs city in Mexico like a huge tidal wave
An intense sandstorm struck a city in Mexico, resembling a massive tidal wave.
Terrifying footage shows the thick wall of dust blanketing Chihuahua on April 19, around 7:30 pm.
Local reports said that the freak weather event, also known as haboob, swept across much of the central and southern regions of the state, affecting at least 15 municipalities.
The storm began in the municipality of Ahumada and quickly spread southward, covering towns, highways, and urban areas, eventually reaching the state capital and its neighbouring municipalities.
No major injuries or significant property damage were reported.
Chihuahua, renowned for its dry and extreme climate, has 40 per cent of its land classified as arid. It is also home to the Chihuahua Desert, the largest desert in North America.
Sandstorms, also called dust storms, are caused by a combination of drought and strong winds. The gusts blow across dry surfaces and whip up dust and dirt in the air which forms dense clouds.
