The Jones Road Wildfire broke out Tuesday morning in the Greenwood Forest Wildlife Management Area near Barnegat Township and remains only 10% contained as of Tuesday night, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service. Strong winds and dry conditions fueled the flames, threatening over 1,300 structures and forcing 3,000 residents to evacuate. Authorities have closed a section of the Garden State Parkway, a major highway in the state, as thick smoke reduced visibility and air quality. New Jersey State Police advised drivers to avoid the area. The blaze has already caused significant disruptions, with over 26,000 customers experiencing power outages in Ocean County, as reported by PowerOutage.US. Several businesses in Lacey Township’s industrial park were damaged or destroyed, though no injuries have been reported. As dark plumes of smoke blanketed the region, with firefighters working to protect homes and other structures, officials issued a public health advisory due to worsening air quality.
