Hundreds of devotees pierced their backs allowing them to hang from cranes and pull vehicles during this painful festival held in Kalapet, Puducherry.

The Panguni Uthiram is celebrated during the full moon day of the Tamil month Panguni (March 14 - April 13).

During the festival, thousands of Hindu devotees pierce their bodies with numerous needles and spikes as marks of penance for their wishes to be fulfilled.
