Indonesia's mount Lewotobi Laki-laki shows increased activity, ashfall blankets evacuated villages
Volcanic activity at Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki on the island of Nusa Tenggara Timur, Indonesia, has intensified in recent weeks.
Multiple eruptions have resulted in volcanic ashfall covering eight villages in the vicinity of the volcano. These villages had previously been evacuated.
Indonesia's Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) has issued aviation warnings and safety advisories to the public.
Footage filmed on Wednesday (April 23, 2025) captured Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupting, sending an ash column as high as 3,500 meters into the sky.
