UNRWA aid supplies run out in Gaza amid 53-day Israeli blockade and ongoing genocide
GAZA, PALESTINE - APRIL 23, 2025: As Israel's genocidal war continues to devastate the Gaza Strip, the humanitarian situation has reached alarming new levels. On Wednesday, April 23, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) announced that its aid warehouses in the besieged enclave have been completely depleted after 53 days of total blockade. In central Gaza’s Nuseirat Refugee Camp, UNRWA facilities have run out of supplies entirely. With Israeli authorities maintaining the closure of all border crossings, humanitarian aid has been unable to enter Gaza for weeks—leaving civilians in critical need and facing a rapidly deteriorating situation that threatens lives across the region. The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor recently reported that many families in Gaza have been forced to drastically reduce their food intake, resulting in significant weight loss and severe malnutrition. The World Food Programme echoed those concerns, warning that amid the intensifying siege, countless families in Gaza no longer know when—or if—they will receive their next meal. UNRWA further stressed that the humanitarian crisis has now reached its worst point since October 2023, with Gaza’s lifeline of aid completely depleted and no indication of relief on the horizon. Since March 2, Israel has closed Gaza’s crossings, blocking essential supplies from entering the enclave despite multiple reports of famine in the war-devastated territory. The Israeli army resumed its genocide on Gaza on March 18, shattering a Jan. 19 ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement. Israel has killed nearly 51,300 Palestinians in the enclave since October 2023, most of them women and children. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
