This bird, whose habitat is around rice fields, is a lover of warm temperatures typical of tropical regions. Therefore, it is not surprising that in Indonesia it is very easy to find this type of bird. There are several names that are often used to refer to several types of sparrows, including the bondol haji (Lonchura maja), the Bengal sparrow (Amandava amandava), and the Peking sparrow (Lonchura punctulata).

Sparrows are often considered pests by farmers because they eat rice grains in the fields. However, this bird also has benefits as a natural pest control because it eats insects. In addition, sparrows are often kept because of their melodious voices and the beauty of their feather colors.
