DIRECTOR OF BETHLEHEM AMBULANCE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES, ABDULHALIM JAAFAR SPEAKING (Arabic) BETHLEHEM, WEST BANK, PALESTINE -APRIL 23: Protesters gathered in the occupied West Bank city of Bethlehem on Wednesday, Apr. 23, demanding an international investigation into the killing of Palestinian healthcare workers in Israeli attacks. The demonstration took place in front of the Church of the Nativity, where participants held banners and photos of medical personnel from the Palestinian Red Crescent who were killed in recent strikes, particularly in Rafah. Protesters called for an independent inquiry into the targeting of healthcare workers in Gaza. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), at least 670 attacks on health facilities were recorded between October 7, 2023, and March 14, 2024, damaging 122 medical centers and 33 hospitals. On April 12, the Israeli military announced it had completed the encirclement of Rafah, establishing the "Morag Corridor" to cut off the city from Khan Younis in southern Gaza. Israel resumed its offensive on March 18, breaking a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal that had been in place since January 19. Since October 2023, Israel’s military campaign in Gaza has killed over 51,300 Palestinians, the majority being women and children, according to local health authorities. In November 2023, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), brought by South Africa over its military operations in the besieged enclave.
