A massive king cobra was caught at a school in southern Thailand.

The deadly snake sparked alarm among students as it slithered through the yard of the Ban Nang Kam Community School in Surat Thani, on April 21.

Rescue volunteers arrived at the scene after receiving a report from the school teachers.

Footage shows the specialists dragging the cobra onto the road as it tried to wriggle away. They pinned it down with a snake clamp before bagging it inside a fertiliser sack to be released into the wild.

A resident said: 'Three cobras have already been caught in this area. There is probably a nest nearby, somewhere in the grass.'

Researchers found that 7,000 people are treated for snake bites each year in Thailand. Suchai Suteparuk from the Division of Toxicology at Chulalongkorn University reported that 30 of those die, with cobras being the biggest killer.
