BELGIAN MEMBER OF EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT, MARC BOTENGA, FROM LEFT GROUP, DELIVERING SPEECH (French)BRUSSELS, BELGIUM - APRIL 24: Hunger strikers from France joined EU staff outside the European Commission in Brussels on Thursday, April 24, urging unhindered humanitarian aid access to Gaza. EU personnel from various institutions, who gather weekly in front of the Commission to show solidarity with Gaza, welcomed the hunger strikers from Marseille, where they began their protest on March 31. Gathering at 1 P.M. local time, participants urged the EU to pressure Israel to allow humanitarian aid into the blockaded enclave. French doctor Pascal Andre, who volunteered in Gaza and has lost 14 kilograms during his hunger strike, addressed the crowd, criticizing authorities and media for their silence in the face of what he described as genocide. Another participant in the demonstrations, French doctor Catherine Le Scolan-Quere, said she called on EU officials to pressure Israel to allow the resumption of humanitarian aid access to Gaza. Belgian Member of the European Parliament Marc Botenga, from the Left Group, also attended the demonstration to show his support. Israel resumed its offensive on the Gaza Strip on March 18, abandoning a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that took hold in January. It has killed nearly 51,400 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in the enclave since October 2023. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war that has left the territory on the brink of famine. Reporting by Dursun Aydemir // Writing by Mustafa Tuncer
