ROME, ITALY - MARCH 29, 2025: Thousands of demonstrators marched through the streets of Rome on Saturday (March 29) to protest Israel’s renewed military offensive on Gaza. Gathering in the busy Vittorio Emanuele Square, an estimated 4,000 protesters waved Palestinian flags and chanted slogans in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. Demonstrators called for an end to what they described as genocide in Gaza, frequently chanting "Intifada," "Freedom for Palestine," and "We are all anti-Zionists." On March 18, the Israeli army launched a surprise aerial attack on Gaza, killing 896 people and injuring nearly 2,000, effectively ending the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement. Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have killed more than 50,200 Palestinians — mostly women and children — and injured over 114,000, according to health authorities. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants in November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its war on the enclave.
