This is the dramatic moment a massive landslide sent up a huge cloud of debris and dust—blocking a road.

A section of the Pontic Mountains collapsed due to erosion near the motorway in Turkey on April 22.

Footage shows the route connecting the provinces of Gumushane and Tirebolu being engulfed by cascading rock and soil that barrelled down onto the pathway.

A large plume of dust can be seen billowing into the air, significantly reducing visibility.

Upon witnessing the disaster, drivers quickly moved away from the affected area. Some motorists managed to steer their vehicles to safety, narrowly escaping the landslide.

There have been no reports of significant damage resulting from the hill's sudden collapse.

Local authorities promptly assessed the situation and deployed emergency response teams to the scene to begin clearing operations.

Experts warned that climate change may be contributing to the growing frequency and intensity of landslides across Turkey and other mountainous regions. Heavier and more erratic rainfall, combined with droughts that weaken soil structure, have made slopes increasingly vulnerable to collapse.

Geological studies reveal that Turkey is highly prone to landslides, with thousands of incidents recorded annually. The region's steep terrain, heavy rainfall, and seismic activity all contribute to a volatile mix of natural hazards.
