Americans' trust in the U.S. government to bolster the domestic economy appears to be faltering amid U.S. President Donald Trump's broad and haphazardly enforced tariffs, according to a new poll conducted by the Associated Press and the National Opinion Research Center. The poll, conducted from April 17 to 21, revealed that 47 percent of U.S. adults believe the U.S. trade policies will increase prices "a lot," while another 30 percent think prices could go up "somewhat." Meanwhile, 53 percent of Americans are "extremely or very concerned" about the possibility of the U.S. economy going into a recession in the next few months, while 27 percent indicated they are "somewhat concerned," with only 20 percent stating they were "not very concerned or not at all concerned." Similarly, a six-day poll by Reuters and Ipsos, which concluded on Monday, showed that only 37 percent of respondents approve of Trump's handling of the economy.
