Chinese automakers expect to expand their overseas markets with energy-saving and high-tech electric vehicles, according to top executives at the ongoing 2025 Shanghai Auto Show. These innovative companies have made a relentless push in battery technology, autonomous driving and smart features, leaving foreign companies like Tesla and the traditional foreign auto giants in an uphill battle to reclaim their once-secure lead. China exported 1.5 million vehicles in the first quarter of 2025, exhibiting a 16-percent increase year on year. "China has been the largest car exporter for two consecutive years. New energy vehicles have seen significant growth in our overseas sales this year. This is attributed to their technical advantages, such as energy saving and lower cost. In addition, electric vehicles will bring users a better experience of intelligence-based upgrades and application scenarios," said Yin Tongyue, chairman of Chery Automobile, a Chinese automobile manufacturer headquartered in Wuhu City of east China's Anhui Province. "Breakthroughs in chip technology, communication technology, big data, and AI have provided opportunities. New technologies present us with a chance to triumph our competitors in alternative development and create immense value for our users," said Zhu Huarong, chairman of Changan Automobile, another Chinese car maker headquartered in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality. The 10-day auto show began Wednesday and has attracted nearly 1,000 automakers and supply chain enterprises from 26 countries and regions, making it the largest edition in the event's history. It has set a strong focus on electric and smart vehicles, with more than 100 new cars making their global debuts as the industry powers its way towards a greener and more intelligent future.
