Ormond Beach, United States - April 23, 2025 A woman died Wednesday morning from a suspected fentanyl overdose. Less than eight hours later, her alleged dealer was arrested. Trevin D. Smith, 32, was taken into custody by Volusia Sheriff's Office Overdose Task Force detectives. Messages on the 35-year-old victim’s phone indicated Smith had sold her fentanyl and was offering to sell more. Detectives arranged a meeting with Smith at a 7-Eleven in Ormond Beach. When he arrived, he tried to flee on foot. The dealer was arrested after a short chase that ended inside a nearby gas station and shop. While fleeing, Smith threw his phone and a small bag of fentanyl. Both were recovered by detectives. The overdose investigation remains ongoing. Smith is being held without bond. He faces charges including sale and delivery of fentanyl, resisting arrest, use of a communication device to commit a felony, driving with a suspended license, and child neglect. His toddler was found in the back seat of his car without a child safety seat or restraints.
