United States - April 24, 2025 Mat-Su Valley, Alaska – Alaska State Troopers witnessed a rare sight while on patrol Thursday morning. A fireball streaked across the sky, catching attention on the left side of patrol camera footage. The bright meteor was seen over Southcentral Alaska, according to multiple reports. It lit up the sky in areas stretching from Homer to Wasilla. A meteorological database that tracks fireball sightings recorded more than half a dozen reports from the region. While the exact cause of the fireball has not yet been confirmed, the timing aligns with the ongoing Lyrids Meteor Shower. The Lyrids, which began earlier this month, are expected to conclude around Saturday.
