A villager was left stunned by a giant mushroom growing in her back garden in Thailand.

Waraporn Oimoon, 56, was tidying up the back yard when she found the enormous fungus behind her home in Phayao, northern Thailand, on April 23.

Footage shows her showing off the massive bolete mushroom, with its brown leathery cap spanning more than the length of her hand.

Unsure of what it was, Waraporn said she showed it to her daughter and relatives, who identified it as a bolete mushroom, and the largest they had ever seen.

The mushroom stretched 18.9 inches (48cm) long and 13.8 inches (35cm) wide, while its stalk measured 6.7 inches (17cm) in length. The entire mushroom weighed between around 15 pounds (7kg).

Waraporn said: 'I couldn't believe how large the mushroom is. It was massive and was just sitting there in my garden. My neighbours also said it was the largest they had ever seen. We've never come across anything like it in our time living here.'

Boletes are fleshy and spongy mushrooms with a porous surface under its cap instead of gills. Many of them, such as porcini mushrooms, are edible, though some are known to be poisonous or induce hallucinations.
