A curious elephant checked out passing cars for food in Thailand.

Footage captured by driver Manimuk Boonpiao shows the wild tusker walking toward his truck on a rural road in Prachuap Khiri Khan on April 15.

The beast can be seen using its trunk to investigate the vehicle's contents. When it didn't find anything, it casually turned and made its way toward the next car behind.

Thailand has up to 3,500 elephants in the wild. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in the country at the beginning of the 20th century.

The main threats to wild elephants in Thailand are habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and conflict with humans.
