Roads were submerged amid heavy rain in Frankfort, Kentucky.

Aerial footage shows the severe flooding caused by powerful storms in the region on April 7. Vehicles, highways, homes, and buildings were either partially or completely underwater.

Authorities reported that some cities and towns in Kentucky experienced historic levels of inundation as heavy rainfall caused major rivers to overflow.

The death toll from the severe flooding was believed to have reached seven.

Governor Andy Beshear said: 'Four days of severe storms have brought devastation to communities across the Commonwealth. I want to thank all of our first responders and volunteers, both locally and from out of state, who have dedicated time to help our people.

He continued: 'While the threat of severe storms has ended, several rivers and creeks remain at or above flood stage, and roadways remain underwater in several areas. So we need folks to remain cautious.'

The extreme weather began on April 2, dumping heavy rainfall across the state for several days, swelling rivers, and inundating highways.
