US: Hawk Flyaway After Successful Recovery From Concussion
Durango, United States - April 25, 2025 A hawk picked up near Sunnyside Elementary on February 22 was successfully released back into the wild after recovery. The hawk was examined by Durango Animal Hospital before being sent to Colorado Parks and Wildlife's rehabilitation facility in Del Norte. The diagnosis was a concussion. Thankfully, the hawk had no broken bones, allowing for a faster healing process. Under the care of Michael Sirochman at Frisco Creek, the hawk recovered quickly and was flying beautifully for several weeks. District Wildlife Manager Stephanie Taylor picked up the hawk at Wolf Creek Pass and returned it to the area where it was originally found. A landowner near Sunnyside Elementary allowed the release as several hawks circled overhead. The hawk flew off beautifully and soon joined the others high above. The release was a rewarding moment for everyone involved and made space at Frisco Creek for the next animal needing help.
