Transgender women protest following Jack the Ripper style murder of compatriot in Pattaya
Furious transgender women protested following the gruesome Jack the Ripper-style murder of their compatriot in Thailand.
Footage shows a smattering of Thai ladyboys - men who dress as women - flamboyantly dancing to Thai music as a form of protest along Pattaya Beach Road, on April 27.
The rally came after their fellow trans woman Woranan Pannacha, 25, was brutally killed by a Chinese tourist, Fu Tongyuan, 41, and her internal organs cut from her body, on April 25.
Protest organiser and transgender rights activist Manatsanan Junsawang, 39, also known as 'Big Calypso', said people had allegedly mocked Woranan's death on social media.
He said: 'This protest was sparked by anger over a Laotian person posting insulting messages about the deceased, causing great dissatisfaction among us.
'Though the poster has not yet been found, we are determined to closely monitor the matter. We would like to meet them and talk to them face to face.'
The Facebook post in question read: 'The end of a transgender pretending to be a woman lol. Her heart was ripped out and her lung was boiled and eaten. How is it, pretending to be a woman?'
The Chinese suspect, Fu Tongyuan, 41, from Hubei, reportedly choked Woranan to death before dissecting her with a pair of scissors in at his hotel room in depraved tourist town Pattaya.
He was arrested by police while trying to fly back to China at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok, on April 26.
Officers hauled him back to the hotel for a crime re-enactment - a regular and often drama-filled part of police investigations in Thailand - as furious locals tried to break through police lines to attack him.
Footage shows Fu - in a black helmet and red shirt - demonstrating how he strangled the slender ladyboy before dragging her off the bed and brutally pressing his knee down on her neck until she died.
After the victim lay limp on the floor, Fu then dragged her corpse to the bathroom and proceeded to slice her torso open.
He claimed he 'was curious about the human body after watching too many TV series', and wanted to examine her internal organs. He allegedly ripped out her silicone breast implants and heart. He had also removed a lung, which authorities said is still missing.
The grisly murder was discovered after An, a housekeeper, reported to the hotel manager that she had heard the pair arguing and Woranan screaming before the fighting stopped at around 2 am on April 26.
She said: 'I woke up later that morning and couldn't shake the feeling something was wrong. So I told my boss what happened and he asked me to check on the room and scold the guests for causing a disturbance. But when I knocked on the door, no one answered. I unlocked it with a spare key, and that's when I discovered the body. The Chinese man was already missing. I rushed to tell my boss, and we called the police.'
Police reviewed CCTV footage in the area and learned that the suspect had fled the hotel at around 7:50 am local time. He was seen taking a motorcycle taxi and boarding a bus to Bangkok.
Authorities detained him as he was trying to board a flight to Kunming, China, at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport. He was found with numerous scratches on his face and a missing tooth, believed to be from his scuffle with the deceased.
Police Major General Thawatkiat Jindakuansanong, commander of the Chonburi Provincial Police, said: 'At first, the suspect remained silent and refused to testify until we presented the evidence to him. He was also found him carrying the victim's phone.
‘He admitted that he committed the murder after the victim refused to have intercourse and kicked him in the face, causing his tooth to fall out and making him angry. He pressed his knee to her throat until she couldn't breathe before dragging her body into a bathroom.
‘He said he watched a lot of TV shows and was interested in how the inside of a corpse looked, so he cut through her stomach to her chest with scissors.
‘The suspect was a welder, so he was physically capable and was able to cleanly slice the body in a straight line before taking out her breast implants and her heart.'
The Chinese holidaymaker said he had met Woranan at a beach near Pattaya's Walking Street area. He claimed he was unaware that she was transgender, and paid her 8,000 baht (180 GBP) for sex. However, she allegedly changed her mind when they reached the hotel.
Fu said he had tried to ask for a refund, but Woranan only gave half of his money back. He allegedly confessed that he had given in to 'uncontrollable rage' and was sorry for his actions.
Woranan's father, Auan Pannacha, 61, said he was devastated at the loss of the family's breadwinner.
He said: 'Even now, I still can't accept her death. Four years ago, she asked to work in Taiwan to study Chinese, and she became fluent. After two years, she returned to Pattaya, and we visited her sometimes.
'Woranan was kind, shy, and the pillar of our family. She bought us a house and sent us 10,000 baht each month, aside from buying us other things we wanted. Just two or three months ago, she promised to take us all to China. I can't believe she's gone now.'
Police said they were still searching for Woranan's missing lung, but denied that the suspect was involved in organ trafficking.
Fu was detained at the Pattaya City Police Station to face theft and murder charges.
Former fishing village Pattaya became popular with American troops on 'rest and relaxation' breaks in the 1950s and 1960s when the U.S. military had bases in Thailand while fighting Communism in Vietnam. Rural families are said to have even dressed their sons as women to cash in on the gold rush.
The handful of bars in the coastal town quickly grew and it is now the world's biggest sex holiday destination, with round-the-clock prostitution and drugs - a modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah rife with crime and debauchery.
Government chiefs have attempted to clean up the city but regular violence, depravity and claims of corruption continue to blight its reputation.
