Situated in the canton of Vaud, Nyon is home to around 23,000 people and boasts notable landmarks such as Nyon Castle and Prangins Castle, along with Roman ruins that appeal to history enthusiasts. Dating back to 50 B.C. and believed to have been established by Roman Emperor Julius Caesar in the early 2nd century, Nyon also holds significance as a historic port city. Archaeological excavations in 1996 uncovered an ancient Roman amphitheater and the subterranean Roman Museum, now among the town's top tourist attractions. The Roman Museum not only showcases about 400 artifacts but also offers glimpses into daily life during the Roman era. The museum’s collection includes nearly 20,000 items, though only a selection is on display due to space limitations. Speaking to Anadolu, Malika Bossard, the museum's curator, noted that the museum is built on the foundations of a Roman basilica, which once served as the city's administrative center. Bossard said that despite its small size, the museum hosted 18,000 visitors last year and added, "You are welcome to visit Roman museum. It's a very special museum, and the atmospher is special. Because of the authentic roman walls which gives nice atmosphere to visit." Reporting by Hamza Önder Kuloğlu // Writing by Mustafa Tuncer
