PROTESTERS HOLDING LARGE BANNER OUTSIDE EMBASSY BUILDING AND CHANTING SLOGANSPRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA - APRIL 28, 2025: Dozens of demonstrators rallied in Pretoria, South Africa, outside the Egyptian Embassy on Monday, April 28, urging the immediate opening of the Rafah border crossing to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza. "Israel stop the genocide now" and "Open Rafah now" read some banners. Protesters carried symbolic aid boxes and placed them in front of the embassy to draw attention to the urgent need for relief supplies in the blockaded enclave. The Israeli army resumed its assault on Gaza on March 18, shattering a Jan. 19 ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement. Israel has killed more than 52,300 Palestinians in the enclave since October 2023, most of them women and children. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
