United States - April 26, 2025 Cajon Pass, CA – On Saturday, April 26, San Bernardino County Fire Protection District crews responded to a motorcycle accident near Cleghorn Trail in the Cajon area of the San Bernardino Mountains. The rider had gone approximately 100 feet over the side of the road and sustained moderate injuries. Due to the difficult terrain and distance from the road, specialized Urban Search and Rescue personnel were dispatched. Fire crews quickly set up a rope rescue system using mechanical advantage to safely lift the rider back to the road. Once at the road, the rider received emergency medical treatment before being transported by ground ambulance to a local trauma center. The incident involved three engines, two All-terrain Response Vehicles (ARVs), one USAR Unit, one battalion chief, and a public information officer. The ARVs proved to be invaluable, allowing crews to access difficult terrain and transport patients more efficiently. Helicopter assistance was initially requested but canceled due to nearby power lines and high winds. San Bernardino County Fire Protection District advises outdoor enthusiasts to exercise caution when exploring off-road trails.
