This is the impressive moment a humanoid robot shook hands with expo visitors in China.

‘Iron', developed by XPeng Motors, debuted at Auto Shanghai 2025, stunning guests as it demonstrated lifelike movements.

Footage captured by Liu Yusen shows the machine waving at spectators on April 24.

Moments later, a man from the crowd extended his hand, prompting the robot to stretch out its arm for a handshake.

Engineers behind the bot said the 5.8ft tall automaton is designed with more than 60 joints and 200 degrees of freedom, allowing it to perform complex, human-like motions.

Iron's AI capabilities are reportedly powered by XPeng's proprietary Turing AI chip, which features a 40-core CPU capable of processing AI models with 30 billion parameters.

XPeng Motors is a prominent Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer operating across several countries.

In recent years, the tech company has expanded its ventures beyond traditional EVs. It unveiled its flying car concept at the 2023 Shanghai International Auto Show.

XPeng CEO He Xiaopeng said: 'Although almost all robots in the industry are currently at the L2 stage, the goal is to move towards L3. XPeng's robot is also in this process, and I am confident that XPeng will become one of the first companies in China to mass-produce L3 robots.'

China has been increasingly integrating robots into public life, deploying humanoid robots for community services, autonomous vehicles for public security, and service robots in hospitality and retail sectors.

On March 26, the G1 robot, created by Unitree and dressed in a stylish violet flowy top, made its debut at the Xintiandi show venue during Shanghai Fashion Week.

On March 4, Yushu Wang Xingxing, Founder and CEO of Unitree, sparred with the humanoid robot to demonstrate its combat skills in Zhejiang.

Human and animal-like robots are being developed in several countries, with China and the United States leading the 'tech arms race.'

Last month, a military-style robot dog was even spotted protecting President-Elect Donald Trump in Florida.

Meanwhile, eccentric billionaire Elon Musk, who played a key role in Trump's recent US election victory, recently unveiled Optimus, describing it as a multi-functional assistant capable of handling household chores, playing with children, and performing repetitive tasks.
