Ghaziabad, India - April 28, 2025 A massive fire broke out in a posh locality's multi-storey commercial building, forcing trapped occupants to hang precariously from windows. Relentless efforts finally tamed the blaze nearly one and a half hours later. The incident took place at Aditya Commercial Building, Raj Nagar district centre, in Ghaziabad district, in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, on April 28. Visuals show a fire broke out in a multi-storey building, causing the situation to escalate so severely that people inside were seen hanging from windows to escape the flames, spreading panic among onlookers. Speaking to Newslions, Rahul Pal, Chief Fire Officer, Kotwali Fire Station, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, stated that at 3:30 pm, a multi-storey building caught fire. Within four minutes, the first fire brigade team arrived at the scene. A total of 10 fire trucks, including hydraulic equipment, were deployed. The operation was led by him, with a team of 50 firefighters. Initially, 70 people were rescued, followed by 20 more. The entire rescue operation was completed within one and a half hours. Reports suggest that the fire originated from an electric shaft on the seventh floor, quickly spreading and filling the entire building with thick smoke. People faced extreme difficulty escaping through the stairways, and many, gripped by panic, were seen attempting to exit through windows. Earlier, several complaints had been filed highlighting flaws in the building’s fire safety systems. Now, authorities are preparing for legal action following a thorough investigation. After nearly two hours of intense effort, the blaze was fully brought under control, and the building was safely evacuated. Currently, relief operations are underway, and a detailed probe into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
