A swimming pool wall collapsed killing four schoolboys in Indonesia.

The structure crumbled into the bathroom area of a building while the children were lining up to take a shower before evening prayers on April 25.

However, a water tank reportedly exploded, sending the 13ft wall crashing onto the youngsters at the dormitory in Magelang. Authorities said 25 boys were trapped under the rubble.

The emergency services launched a rescue operation and saved 25 pupils. However, four boys were found dead.

They were identified by officials as Muhammad Fadhil Hanafi, Rayfhan Hafiz, Bima Arya Sanjaya, and Wildan Syifaul Haq.

Basuki, co-ordinator of the Borobudur search and rescue unit, said: 'The thickness of the wall made it difficult for us to evacuate the boys, especially with the narrow gaps in the room. Those who died were mostly crushed by the foundation and suffered fractures and injuries to vital organs.'

The injured survivors were taken to the Merah Putih Regional General Hospital. The search was concluded on April 26.

In a statement, Basnang Said, a director of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs, said: 'We are deeply saddened by this incident.

'Our prayers are for the students who passed away. May Allah accept them in His love and place them in the best heaven. To the students who are being treated, we pray that they will recover soon. For the families left behind, may they be given strength and sincerity.

'This is an unexpected disaster, and a reminder to all of us of the importance of safety supervision in educational environments.

'Islamic boarding schools are not only places of learning, but also a shared home. Let's protect their safety together, for the sake of future generations who grow up in security, knowledge, and compassion.'
