Man who is Elon Musk doppelgänger says "it's not a compliment"
Meet Elon Musk's doppelgänger - a singer from Luxembourg who says his uncanny resemblance to the tech entrepreneur is "not a compliment". "
Hugo One, 28, is regularly mistaken for Musk - who runs Tesla - and says he gets stopped while at the supermarket, bars and queues for nightclubs and doesn't enjoy the comparison.
Hugo was most recently stopped on a reunion night out with pals in Aberdeen, Scotland, when a group of lads shouted "you're Elon Musk" at him. "
Deciding to film the encounter, the strangers "couldn't believe" he wasn't the businessman."
Hugo says he's stopped twice a month by strangers who comment on his likeness to Musk with a "few brave souls" even asking for a selfie."
Musk, 53, is a senior advisor for the White House but more widely known as the founder of SpaceX, product architect for Tesla and owner of X, formerly Twitter.
Despite the "unwanted attention", Hugo "likes the way he looks" and can't see himself changing his appearance. "
Hugo, a disco-soul singer, from Luxembourg City, said: "They were the fifth group of people to stop me that night - I was exhausted."
"I don't take it as a compliment to be compared to Elon because he's not a nice person."
"He's also not at all good looking."
"But I took it as a laugh because they were a nice friendly group of lads. "
"Plus, it's created some great traffic to my page and people are downloading my songs."
Hugo worked as an English and French teacher in Berlin, Germany, when was first compared to Elon Musk in 2018 by one on his students.
But he says it happens a couple of times a month when people comment on his physical similarity to Musk but, thankfully, he hasn't received any abuse as a result of it.
On a recent road trip around Scotland, UK, in April 2025, Hugo and his university friends stopped in Aberdeen - the city where they met.
After a night out - where Hugo had been told he looked like Musk four times - the same happened again with three men.
"At this point, I was tired, and it had already happened four times before," Hugo said. "
"But I took it in jest because you have to see the funny side."
Posting the clip on social media on Friday (25/04), the video has since received over 1.5 million views, with people agreeing and commenting "that is Elon Musk"."
Hugo said: "I thought it would get a fair few views but nothing of this scale. "
"On Saturday, I woke up and it had 70,000 views and now it has over 1.5 million."
"As long as people know I don't align with Elon or his beliefs, I don't mind."
"It probably won't be the last time either."
