VARIOUS OF POLICE TAKING SECURITY MEASURES / POLICE VEHICLES MOVING IN STREETS PARIS, FRANCE- APRIL 29, 2025: Several thousand striking medical interns accompanied by doctors held demonstrations in Paris and multiple cities across France on Tuesday, April 29, protesting against a proposed law that would limit their freedom to work where they want. In Paris, medical students and doctors demonstrated at Place du Panthéon and Place Vauban, voicing their opposition to the proposed law. Unions have denounced the bill and called for a nationwide strike. Similar demonstrations were also held in various towns across the country as part of the coordinated protest. Currently, doctors working privately have the flexibility to open practices anywhere. However, parts of the country lack adequate medical staffing, creating 'medical deserts' where access to healthcare involves significant travel or prolonged waiting periods. Under the proposed bill, the opening of new medical practices would be regulated, allowing new doctors to set up in well-served areas only when a current doctor retires and with regional health agency authorization. The key article of this bill was already adopted on April 2. The National Assembly is expected to continue its review of this bill starting on May 6.
