Rain lashed school buses during downpours in Ohio.

Footage shows heavy rainfall battering Hilliard on the afternoon of April 29 amid a powerful supercell thunderstorm.

Schoolchildren can be seen running toward one of the vehicles parked in the area to take cover.

Supercell thunderstorms, known for producing extreme rainfall and sometimes tornadoes, are driven by atmospheric instability and strong wind shear.

A study by the Center for Severe Weather Research revealed that such storms can generate rainfall rates exceeding 4 inches per hour, leading to flash flooding—particularly hazardous in urban areas like Hilliard.

Schools in some districts, including one in nearby Licking County, reportedly delayed student release and implemented shelter-in-place protocols to ensure safety during the peak of the storm.
