China: China's honey exports abuzz on rising global demand
Storyline: China's honey exports abuzz on rising global demand [Voice_over] China, the world's largest honey exporter, is continuing its sweet success on the global stage with rising export volumes. According to the China Bee Products Association, China exported more than 183,000 tons of bee products last year, up more than 11 percent year on year. In east China's Jiangsu Province, this honey producer was one of the first in China to receive an EU honey export certificate. In recent years, the company has participated in trade fairs to expand its global reach and developed new products tailored to various consumer preferences. [Sound_bite] Gao Hua, Deputy general manager, honey producer in Jiangsu Province: "Consumer preferences for honey vary by country. In Japan, multifloral honey is preferred, while in Saudi Arabia, date blossom honey is more popular. Last year, we exported over 200 tons to Saudi Arabia. This year, we've expanded into the Japanese market and already fulfilled orders exceeding 300 tons." [Voice_over] Another honey exporter in the province has entered four new global markets in the past five years, with export volumes hitting around 3,500 tons last year. To keep up with demand, the company has invested in new production lines, doubling daily capacity from 40 tons to around 80. [Sound_bite] Xu Xiangyang, President, honey producer in Jiangsu Province: "Our daily production capacity has nearly doubled, rising from around 40 tonnes to 70 or 80 tonnes. I expect another bumper harvest this year, with production remaining robust. So, I'm quite optimistic about the market." [Voice_over] China ranks first globally in the export volumes of honey, royal jelly, beeswax, and other bee-related products, with shipments reaching more than 100 countries and regions worldwide.
