A teenage girl has been caught on camera hurling slurs and bottles in a "disgusting" racist attack after shoplifting."

The incident occurred on Saturday (26 April) inside the SPAR on Motherwell's Leven Street, which has been run by the Nasir family for over 40 years.

Omar Nasir, 36, who took over the shop from his father, says he caught the girl shoplifting cans of alcoholic Dragon Soop - but when confronted, she fled from the store.

Another colleague followed, ushering her back into the shop, where Omar demanded she pay for the drinks - but he says the girl simply opened the can and began drinking it.

As Omar phoned the police, he says the girl began throwing the drink over him, and dropped her phone in the chaos.

Another member of staff picked up her phone and told her they would return it when she paid for the drinks - but instead, she began throwing bottles of water at staff members and shouting vile, racist abuse.

Omar began filming, and handed his phone to a customer, as the girl shouted and called members of staff "p**i b*****ds" and told them to "get out of my country."

Omar, who was born and raised in Motherwell, described the attack as "disgusting and shocking."

He said: "We told her to get out, and as she was leaving, she was still knocking stuff over, throwing things and shouting more abuse. "

"She started launching bottles at me. One hit me on the back of the head and one hit me on my back. "

"She started saying racist comments - telling me to 'go back to my own country.'"

"Then the police came in, and while they were looking at the CCTV, she came back in the shop again to steal - but a member of staff informed us she was back, so the police caught up with her and arrested her then."

Omar shared the footage on social media, where he has been overwhelmed by an outpouring of support from the local community.

He has been shocked at the blatant racism displayed - and says he hopes the girl will learn that treating people this way is unacceptable.

"It's the first time anything like this has happened," he said."

"We're in a nice area and we've got good customers, we've never had any kind of bother. "

"It's a family run business - my dad's been there for over 40 years and we've never had this as an issue before."

"This shouldn't happen in this day and age. It was shocking - we were disgusted by her behaviour. "

"She needs to be educated."

"Being told "go back to your own country" - she doesn't even know me and she's just assumed based on my skin colour that I wasn't born here. "

"I have as much right to be here as she does."

A spokesperson for Police Scotland told Glasgow Live: "Around 5pm on Saturday, 26 April, 2025, we were called to a report of a disturbance within a premises on Leven Street, Motherwell."

"A 15-year-old girl was arrested and charged in connection with shoplifting and an assault."

"She will be reported to the relevant authorities."
