A building fire injured dozens of residents in China today.

At least 17 people were reportedly injured when the residential complex caught fire following an explosion in Taiyuan, Shanxi.

The fire brigade responded to an emergency call and rushed to the scene to battle the raging blaze and rescue trapped locals.

Footage shows thick black smoke billowing from the area as flames engulfed the structure on the afternoon of April 30.

In another clip, shattered windows from a nearby apartment can be seen scattered on the ground, caused by the blast.

Authorities said that four of the injured individuals are in critical condition, while three have been discharged after treatment.

Rescue teams are currently conducting door-to-door safety checks in the affected building, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the explosion.

The incident follows a deadly restaurant fire that killed 22 people in Liaoyang yesterday, and a nursing home blaze on April 9 that left 20 elderly residents dead in Hebei.
