TETOVO, NORTH MACEDONIA - APRIL 30, 2025: Hundreds of people gathered in Tetovo, North Macedonia, on Wednesday, April 30, in solidarity with the people of Gaza, against Israel's ongoing offensive. “North Macedonia stands with Gaza: Greetings to the resistance from Tetovo” was the theme of the rally. Civil society groups organized the event at Iliria Square, where symbolic cradles, children’s clothes and toys were displayed to highlight the suffering of Palestinian children killed in Israeli attacks. A large banner of a watermelon -- a widely recognized symbol of Palestinian resistance -- was placed at the center of the square. Demonstrators, including children, wore keffiyehs and carried signs in Turkish, Albanian, Macedonian and English that read: “Ceasefire now,” “Peace,” “No to apartheid” and “Sanctions on Israel.” Protesters also chanted slogans and sang religious hymns expressing solidarity with Gaza. Since March 2, Israel has closed Gaza’s crossings, blocking essential supplies from entering the enclave despite multiple reports of famine in the war-devastated territory. The Israeli army renewed its assault on Gaza on March 18, shattering a Jan. 19 ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement with Palestinian resistance group Hamas.
