Four gold miners were buried alive in a landslide in Indonesia.

The workers were killed in the accident at a mining site in Marapit Village, Kapuas Regency, Central Kalimantan, on Tuesday, April 29.

Dramatic footage shows the evacuation of the victims, carried out by volunteer locals and emergency responders.

Ahmad Saribi, Head of the Kapuas Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), confirmed the deaths.

He said: 'When the incident occurred, residents were mining gold, the activity was carried out during the day, and the conditions at that time were drizzling, then suddenly a landslide occurred and buried four miners.'

Ahmad also noted that authorities received the report two days after the disaster.

Another landslide struck a hillside beside homes in North Toraja Regency, South Sulawesi, on March 19. The collapse blocked access to the main road, cutting off thousands of residents and isolating the four sub-districts of Rindingallo, Baruppu, Buntu Pepasan, and Awan Rantekarua.

On July 7 last year, 12 workers were killed after being trapped in a gold mine buried by a landslide in Gorontalo Province. The response team had to walk 20 km to reach the site amid bad weather.

Landslides are common in Indonesia, particularly during the rainy season. The risk is further exacerbated by deforestation and illegal mining activities in remote areas.
