A suspected thief allegedly threw red chilli powder into a shopkeeper's eyes during a daylight robbery in India.

The incident occurred on April 30, around 11 am, at a mobile and money transfer shop in Bijnor district, Uttar Pradesh.

CCTV footage shows the suspect, wearing a hoodie and a face mask, approaching the counter while posing as a customer.

Store owner Suhail said the individual asked for a mobile data recharge.

As Suhail opened the cash drawer, the suspect pulled a packet of powdered spices from his jacket and threw it into the shopkeeper's eyes.

The assailant was then seen grabbing money from the till before fleeing on foot.

Suhail, temporarily blinded, was unable to stop the thief, who escaped with INR 50,000 (GBP 446).

Police are currently reviewing the footage to identify and apprehend the suspect.
