Shoppers shocked as mysterious figures rope down from choppers - near Tesco
Shoppers in a Manchester suburb were shocked to see figures roping down from two mysterious helicopters onto a building.
The incredible scenes occurred near a Tesco superstore in Baguley on Monday (28 April).
The darkly dressed individuals landed on a roof believed to be in an industrial estate, before running inside.
The aircraft are thought to be unmarked Eurocopter Dauphin helicopters, which are used by the SAS for covert transport and fast-roping insertion into missions.
The special ops choppers are said to adopt civilian paint schemes in order to blend in with commercial air traffic.
Vinay Mathew Punnamthanam filmed the dramatic scene after he had been for evening groceries. He said: "I was in Baguley Tesco, and it happened just behind that. I really don't know what happened."
"Two helicopters came, they dropped people and left. I was in a hurry, so I couldn't ask anyone about it."
Social media users debated what had happened.
Ian Harwood wrote: "I heard a helicopter going over us which didn't show up on Flight Radar so assumed it must have been military."
Dave Johnson added: "SAS training on Virgin Media building in Baguley."
Other suggestions included, "Maybe they are just popping in to pick up a meal deal" and "Either there's some good bargains on the reduced counter, or more likely a training exercise."
