This is the shocking moment two lorries narrowly escape a head-on collision in a dramatic encounter in Brazil.

Footage shows a vehicle driving along a lane, overtaking a stationary lorry parked on the left of PR-340 road, Parana. Suddenly, a speeding heavy goods vehicle (HGV) appears directly in front of the vehicle filming the scene.

The lorry driver swears and brakes, with the driver of the other HGV doing the same, causing it to jackknife in the road and stop right in front of the first lorry.

Gilmar Barbosa, the driver of the third vehicle, told local media he has 35 years of experience behind the wheel.

He said: 'I entered the band and came face to face with the lorries.

'To avoid crashing into the other lorry, or to see if I could minimise the impact, I threw the lorry towards the ravine and it stopped. Thank God nothing happened.'

He added: 'I saw the people, there were a lot of people on the road. I thought more about avoiding everyone so it wouldn't be a bigger accident.'

Barbosa credited the narrow escape to luck and divine intervention.

Local media reported that the stationary lorry had broken down and was later towed from the scene.

No injuries were reported, and authorities were not called on April 24.
