-GAZA CITY, GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - MAY 2, 2025: A charity organization distributed food to displaced Palestinians in Gaza City on Friday, May 2, as widespread hunger continues to grip the besieged enclave. Dozens of Palestinians, including children, crowded around the distribution site, hoping to receive a portion of food. Many walked long distances and waited for hours under harsh conditions to secure something to bring home to their families. Gaza’s 2.4 million residents rely almost entirely on humanitarian aid, which has been cut off since Israel closed the Kerem Shalom, Zikim, and Erez crossings on March 2. The Israeli army renewed its assault on Gaza on March 18, shattering a Jan. 19 ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement with the resistance group Hamas. Israel has killed over 52,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in Gaza since October 2023. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
