NABLUS, WEST BANK, PALESTINE - MAY 2, 2025: A funeral was held Friday, May 2. for Alaa Shawkat Khudair, a 29-year-old Palestinian man fatally shot by Israeli forces during a military raid in the town of Beita, south of Nablus, in the northern occupied West Bank. Mourners gathered in grief to perform funeral prayers and pay their final respects to Khudair, whose killing has added to the rising tensions in the region. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, Khudair was killed by Israeli army gunfire during a raid on the town of Beita. At least 12 others were injured, including a child, during raids by Israeli forces and illegal settlers in several towns across the occupied West Bank. Tension has been high in the occupied West Bank, where nearly 960 Palestinians have been killed and over 7,000 injured in attacks by the Israeli army and illegal settlers in the West Bank since the start of the Gaza genocide in October 2023, according to Palestinian figures. In July 2024, the International Court of Justice declared Israel's decades-long occupation of Palestinian land illegal and demanded the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
