Malta: Sea Watch captures aerial footage of Conscience aid ship damaged in drone strike en route to Gaza
RESTRICTION: USERS MUST CREDIT “SEA WATCH” HANDOUT, MUST NOT OBSCURE LOGO — EDITORIAL USE ONLY MALTA - MAY 2, 2025: German-based NGO Sea Watch, known for its migrant rescue operations in the Mediterranean, released aerial footage on Friday, May 2, showing the Conscience aid ship that was damaged earlier in the day by a drone strike. The footage, recorded by the SeaBird patrol aircraft, captures the vessel off the coast of Malta, where it was targeted in international waters around 00.23 local time. According to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), which organized the mission, the Conscience was carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza when it was attacked by drones, causing a breach in the hull and a fire on the bow of the vessel. The FFC comprises global campaigners and initiatives aiming to end Israel’s blockade on Gaza. More than 52,400 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza in Israeli genocide since October 2023, most of them women and children. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave. Writing by Aleyna Cil
