SANAA, YEMEN - MAY 2, 2025: Thousands of Yemenis gathered in around 800 squares across 14 cities on Friday, May 2, to voice their support for Gaza, which has been under Israeli assault since October 2023. In the capital, Sanaa, large crowds once again filled Al-Sabeen Square, where Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree delivered a speech denouncing the Israeli genocidal attacks and voicing support for the Palestinian people as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza deepens . A statement released by organizers reaffirmed Yemen’s unwavering stance in support of the Palestinian people and emphasized that US backing for Israel would not deter this position. The statement also claimed that Yemen’s armed forces recently struck US military assets, including the aircraft carrier Truman. Since March 2, Israel has closed Gaza’s crossings, blocking essential supplies from entering the enclave despite multiple reports of famine in the war-devastated territory. The Israeli army renewed its assault on Gaza on March 18, shattering a Jan. 19 ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement with the Palestinian resistance group Hamas.
