An amusement park ride caught fire in China, sending thick smoke into the sky and alarming visitors.

The towering 80ft bungee jumping machine was seen in flames at Fangte ASEAN Shenhua Adventure Park in Nanning, Guangxi.

Footage shows the yellow free-fall tower engulfed by the blaze as concerned holidaymakers fled the area on May 1.

Thick black smoke billowed into the air as the inferno climbed the structure.

Local media reported that firefighters were called and successfully extinguished the flames. No injuries were reported.

Police investigations revealed that the fire was caused by a short-circuited wire. The ride was not in use at the time, and no tourists were on board.

A park staff member said the equipment will be temporarily closed for maintenance.
