Sudan - May 02, 2025 Residents of the Sudanese capital, Khartoum—particularly in areas recently liberated from the Rapid Support Forces—are suffering from severe shortages of essential supplies, including food, drinking water, and cooking gas. This crisis has led to the rise of a phenomenon known as “al-Takaya”, where women in the neighborhood engage in collective cooking and distribute meals to local residents, as well as to those in need in surrounding areas and even passersby. This initiative is often funded by Sudanese expatriates originally from these neighborhoods, who send money to their families to support communities that have been under siege for more than two years.
