Berlin, Germany - April 06, 2025 Berlin’s 2025 half marathon kicked off Sunday, April 6, 2025, under clear skies, drawing more than 40,000 runners to the heart of the German capital. The traditional race, known locally as the “Berliner Halbmarathon,” saw government officials, sports enthusiasts, and spectators converge on the city’s iconic landmarks. Iris Spranger, Berlin’s senator for the Interior and Sports since December 21, 2021, signaled the official start of the race by pressing a ceremonial red buzzer near the Siegessäule (Victory Column). Runners and inline skaters began their journey along the grand boulevard Straße des 17. Juni, passing by historic sites such as the Brandenburg Gate, Schloss Charlottenburg, and Potsdamer Platz. The Berliner Halbmarathon is considered a season-opening highlight for runners, skaters, and wheelchair athletes. Officials said it also serves as a prelude to the city’s fall marathon, further cementing Berlin’s reputation as a premier international destination for distance running.
