Birmingham resident gets excited and sad about convoy of bin lorries on British motorway
This was the moment a Birmingham resident discovered a convoy of brand new bin wagons on a British motorway.
The 41-year-old Birmingham resident, who gave his name as 'Michael' couldn't contain his joy at seeing the first few trucks travelling southbound on the M1 near Northampton on Sunday 4th May.
Michael said: 'I'm a Birmingham resident and since January we have had bin strikes, at one point we didn't see a bin lorry on our road for 6 weeks.'
In the video Michael spotted 11 brand new bin wagons, but it also brought a tear to Michael's eye, as he continued: 'Driving down to Northampton I saw 3 bin lorries, they were brand new, not one single bit of bin juice had tarnished the paintwork, it was a glorious sight.
'But then I saw the writing under the cab, it said Herts Council, not Birmingham City Council where they are needed most!
'Not only that, they were driving South, not North where they are needed.'
Michael explained how the bin strikes have affected him and his fellow residents: 'People think the bin strikes have only been going on since March, but that's not true, that's when they went on an all-out strike, they have been striking since January. 'They haven't collected recycling since January, thats 5 months of no recycling collection!
'I've had to take our recycling on a 150 mile trip to my parents where they don't check where you are from, it's worse than the media make it out to be.'
Each bin lorry costs approximately £225,000 giving this convoy a worth of £2,475,000.
Michael concluded: 'As I carried on driving, there were more and more bin lorries, I thought there were 10, but an eleventh was hiding. 'It's amazing to think there are councils out there that have enough money to buy a fleet of bin wagons and then there is our council that is cutting wages and job roles yet paying other councils inflated costs to have their bin wagon's clear the waste that our strikers are refusing to collect.
'Something just doesn't add up.'
